Runkelstein Castle captivates visitors with the best-preserved secular frescoes in the entire Alpine region. Right next to the old town lies Maretsch Castle, which today serves as a congress centre and features splendid halls and a beautiful Renaissance-style arcaded walkway. And at Sigmundskron Castle, also known as Firmian, you’ll find one of the renowned Messner Mountain Museums created by South Tyrolean mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner.

Renon & Earth Pyramids

The Renon is a sunny high plateau above Bolzano, easily accessible by the Renon cable car. Charming hamlets and gentle hiking trails with views stretching to the Dolomites await you. A true highlight are the Earth Pyramids: striking natural pillars of clay topped with large stones, formed by unique erosion processes, and reaching heights of up to 30 metres.
